This has been a long remodeling process. In 2009 we remodeled the outside and part of the downstairs. That is Remodeling Project NC 2009. Mike Fusco did most of the work himself. There were many things to repair in this old house. We also installed a new AC system and duct for the first floor. We also found out the house was framed for the most part with long leaf pine. That is the heart pine tree. Good lumber.
There were multiple structural corrections made. The house is very solid now. There is no replace ment for competent trades people and it takes many years of expeience to be really competent at this business.
My wife purchased this home before we ever knew each other. This is a story of why a competent home inspector is so important. Many important structural and health issues were missed by the inspector she hired.
Mr. Fusco designed this remodel and drafted the plans himself. Mr. Fusco also has a computer program to walk you through your own remodel.
Read below and we will explain things.
Before
The pictures below are the before pictures. Most were taken just before the demolition was to begin. Things were a mess.
This fine old home has been systematically wood butchered for 40 years. This is from do it yourselfers and incompetent contractors.
The home is in great condition now!
Very poor work from previous remodeling contractors and bank hired contractors. You get what you pay for in this business.
Very poor designer! Horrible work!
Do You Need a Kitchen Remodel?
Comes with a cat and no work space yikes!
Think this needed a update?! Very poor design.
What can I say? Pitiful huh?
I do not know what planet the builder was on?
How do some people get a contractors license?! 1970s this house was built for a doctor yikes!? Which would you rather have?Left or right side of the page?
The old Kitchen is a mix of four remodels from what we can figure. The two latest were the early 1990s and the bank foreclosure low quality cover up work.
The dining room was not functional. No room to move. We had limited space but had to make it work. The only way was to open it up.
Which view would you prefer? There was some really nice heart pine the header was made out of I saved. This 4 ft opening just did not do much for me.
Not very nice and too cramped. Plus a very poor door installation job. That trim on that door always bothered me, I knew the guy that installed it had no idea what he was doing. I was happy to replace it!
Yes look right big difference!
What a difference a half wall and arch can make!
Does this need an explaination?
Much better view to the right!
That half wall arch and the proper color choices make a big difference!
No comparison, difference in talent.
The right side looks much better. Let us design and build your remodeling project!
There are differnet levels of contractors and builders.
Some Construction Pictures Below
1X10 heart pine floor sheathing
Had to move and change many things and have 3 20 amp circuits supplying power to counter top outlets.
Fire foam and re-insulated wall
Re-framed bearing wall notice heart pine 2X4 top plate. I had to use spf framing lumber.
There is a blue L Pine stamp on the one stud. That is for Long Leaf Pine(Heart Pine Tree). The stud with the outlet facing the camera.
After
This project took a while. I did most of the work myself and hired some subs for some of the work.
This is the stairs going up into the kitchen
This is the door going into the kitchen
A lot more working space
Do You Like Arches?
Do you like the sink? Much nicer!
Much more user friendly design. Designed by Mr. Fusco
Work area on each side of the range
Lots of working area and open area at the end for trash can and for sitting and working
This is a much more user friendly design for cooking
Looking toward the living room opened the floor up with arches
Much improved range and work area
Time For The Dining Room
You Like Stained Trim?
Stained trim is beautiful!
Do You Like Custom Hardwoods?
I Like Arches
There is some solid cherry in this remodel. We can also attain and use many hardwoods for custom trim work.
This is a 3 1/2" solid cherry mantel. Mr. Fusco hand made the mantel from rough sawn lumber mill cherry. The cherry is kiln dried. Mr. Fusco also hand made the corbels and top mantel trim.
It Pains me to think someone would paint this beautiful piece of cherry timber one day.
More arches
Much more user friendly design
Much more open foyer/entry
There is that open space under the counter for a work area.
That is a solid cherry shelf made by Mr. Fusco in the half wall arch. I am wondering what knucklehead in the future will paint it?!
I Like Hardwood!
This opening/arch really opened up the living room and entry
Have a remodeling project? Hopefully I can be your contractor! Please schedule and plan in advance. We stay busy.
